Andrew has an honours degree in health science majoring in Chinese medicine and specializing in acupuncture at Melbourne’s Victoria University. Andrew became passionately interested in the ancient traditional healing systems of the Orient during the ten year period that he traveled, lived and worked in Asia and the Middle East. He studied traditional massage in Thailand and then acupuncture in Japan.
He decided to turn his passion into a career when, on returning to Australia, he undertook formal studies at Victoria University in Melbourne. After graduating he returned to his home area, the Colac Otway region, and together with Shizu opened the clinic, and began building a career and a family.
Shizu completed the Diploma of Remedial Massage from the Australian College of Massage in 2013, and is a member of the Australian Association of Massage Therapists. She specialises in Deep Tissue Massage, Sports Massage, Relaxation Massage, and tailors the treatment to your personal needs. Shizu has extensive personal experience as a sports person, having been competitive in both gymnastics and snowboarding in her earlier years in Japan. She is currently an active participant and coach in the dynamic ‘roller derby’ team, the Otway Derby Dolls. Her skilfully effective sports injury treatments reflect her experience.
Pregnancy massage is also a service that Shizu has a particular ability in. Having experienced her own bodily transformations of pregnancy and recovery after childbirth, she brings a caring and empathetic touch to this area of health care.
Colac Otway Chinese Medicine Clinic has now expanded to include a new branch in the Otway township of Forrest. Andrew and Shizu are very passionate about the earth wall building method called cob construction. This method uses locally sourced clay, sand, and straw to achieve beautiful, sustainable, affordable, fire proof buildings. They have built a unique earth walled healing space named : The Cob Clinic.
